Universal Declaration of Human Rights

“Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home -- so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any map of the world. Yet they are the world of the individual person: the neighborhood he lives in; the school or college he attends; the factory, farm or office where he works.”
-Eleanor Roosevelt

2008 is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 60th anniversary. It's time for a global conversation about human rights and the values that unite us as one human family. It can also be a time when each of us chooses to take human rights into our daily lives, individually and collectively

"Whereas the peoples of the United Nations have in the Charter reaffirmed their faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person and in the equal rights of men and women and have determined to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom,"

"You have the right to have whatever you need so that you and your family: do not fall ill or go hungry; have clothes and a house; and are helped if you are out of work, if you are ill, if you are old, if your wife or husband is dead, or if you do not earn a living for any other reason you cannot help. Mothers and their children are entitled to special care. All children have the same rights to be protected, whether or not their mother was married when they were born."

Generation WE

Generation WE: The Movement Begins... from Generation We on Vimeo.

Millennials are the largest generation in American history. Born between 1978 and 2000, WE are 95 million strong, compared to the 78 million Baby Boomers.

WE are politically, socially, and philosophically independent, and are spearheading a period of sweeping change in America and around the world.

The new book, Generation We, explains the emerging power of our Millennial Generation, and shows how WE (and older people who think the way WE do) are poised to change our nation and our world for the better. Download the book here.

**The video states that by 2016, the youngest of Gen WE will be of voting age. Unless they are planning a coup, I don't see how 16 year olds will be voting two presidential elections from now. Not to detract from the message, but statements or implied threats such as these should be carefully thought out before delivered.**

Barack Obama is President-Elect 2008

Congratulations Mr. Obama!

I did have my doubts that enough people would show up to vote but thankfully America proved me wrong. So congrats to the power of the people to speak up and stand up for their rights. Hopefully this is the turning of a new leaf in American history and in 10, 20, 30 years from now we'll look back and wonder what the fuss was all about.

John McCain Conceeds

Senator McCain made a great concession speech. Which leads me to believe that he was a pawn in the Republican Party's inevitable foolish loss to the Democrats after 8 long years of ambiguity. Would I have still wanted him to win? No. Palin for VP? Heck no. But I wonder how much of a closer fight it would have been if he had tried his best as seen in this speech, rather than the spectacle and debacle of the Palin VP movement. It is the sign of a true leader to take one for the team and to own the loss. I admire McCain more after this speech than I did throughout the campaign trail. For those who are planning on Palin 2012... please stop. Although she may be more capable than we have seen in this campaign, the fact that she would sell herself out for a failed campaign and a new wardrobe (since repossessed?) says a lot about her character and that is someone who should not be the leader of the free world.

"Torturing Democracy" Documentary

YOU MUST WATCH THIS! See what happened Post 9-11 when Cheney got power hungry and our legal system went to H-E-L-L. What would you do if you were held in prison for 1000+ days, tortured, and never charged or able to answer for your allegations? One detainee did crack, because he was tortured-you would too, regardless of whether you knew some top secrets or not. Advocate for change!
